Hamersley Waterfall

from $445.00

Karijini, Western Australia, 2005

This image is part of a broader Hamersley Gorge/ Karijini series and was captured at last light, once the sun had exited the gorge and I was left with the remaining soft ambient glow.

I had planned out a series of images I wanted to accomplish in the 20 minutes or so of light I had remaining as I had spent the better part of the afternoon in the gorge preparing for this small window of time.

I’m very pleased to have captured this delicately constructed small waterfall with the shapely, eroded lip of rock providing the beautiful sculptural form.

Unfortunately it wasn’t too many years later that I discovered that this lip was gone, perhaps broken off by the seasonal floods and some debris that may have impacted it and broken it off.

I must admit I was quite disappointed as I had always looked for it when visiting the gorge and would often ponder just how many thousands or even millions of years it had taken to form as it had…

This series captures the beauty of Hamersley Gorge as I was hoping to as it is a truly very special place…

Paul Parin would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the Western Australian lands (Boodja) on which I live and travel upon to

produce my work and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community.

I pay respect to Aboriginal Elders past and present and appreciate their deep cultural connection to and upon the land on which we stand…
