Journey Into Hancock
Karijini, Western Australia, 2005
Hancock Gorge is an iconic location and well loved destination when exploring the Karijini National Park.
It can be a little tricky to navigate with a hefty camera bag and tripod on your back as the gorge narrows to precarious sections with not much more than toe holds to cling to as you carefully work your way along.
Once you get to the Spider Walk you are getting into the deeper sections and are rewarded with the beauty of Kermit’s Pool just before this dramatic drop-off section I have captured in this image. The gorge then moves to the next level of difficulty and requires roping in…
I timed my run to get here for the last light of the day which is always beautiful in these deep gorges as the rock in shadow takes on blue hues, while the rock still receiving stronger ambient light keeps its red tones with plenty of purple in between.
